Super Frames (10 Pack)
R200,00
Super frames are specialized, shorter structural inserts placed inside a beehive’s “honey super” boxes to collect harvestable honey. Because they are shallower than deep brood frames where the queen lays eggs, they are lighter and much easier to lift, transport, and spin in centrifugal extractors.
Key Characteristics
- Dimensions: A standard shallow super frame measures approximately 14 inches (356 mm) wide by 5.5 inches (140 mm) deep.
- Placement: They hang vertically inside the honey supers stacked securely on top of the main brood chamber.
- Foundation Setup: Sold as plain unassembled wood, assembled with support wire, or pre-fitted with a wax starter strip to guide organic comb building.
Management & Spacing Tips
- The 9-Frame Secret: While 10 frames physically fit a standard super box, many apiarists deliberately space only 9 frames inside a 10-frame box.
- Easier Harvesting: Leaving wider gaps encourages the bees to draw out deep, fat honeycombs that stick out past the wooden edges, making it incredibly simple to slice off the wax caps with an uncapping knife.
- Avoid Swarming: Utilize the 7/10 rule—add your honey super box immediately when your expanding colony has fully drawn out and covered seven of the frames in their primary brood box.
