- Traditional Flat Type: A straight piece of forged steel with a flat chisel edge on one end and a 90-degree bent scraping blade on the other. It offers maximum leverage for separating stuck hive boxes.
Essential Functions
- Prying Boxes: Honeybees seal every gap in the hive with a sticky resin called propolis. The sharp chisel edge cuts through this seal to separate the lid or hive boxes.
- Scraping Propolis: The flat edge cleans burr comb and excess propolis off frame rests to keep the hive tidy and maintain proper frame spacing.
- Nail Puller Slot: Most standard tools feature a central teardrop-shaped hole designed to pull small frame nails during hive maintenance.
